Though ever so patiently waiting as gazers do, ardent anticipation thickened the venue (Royale, Boston, MA.,) an east coast favorite. Air particles visibly suspended in dim waves of light, ready to be disturbed by both Nothing, and everything.

Opening with July the Fourth, a track from Nothing’s split record with Whirr (2014) initiated an immediate coalescence of fans of both headliners of the night, an intentional and successful propagation of emotionally destructive soundwaves through the medium that is Royale on this friday night.

Both ends of the blood pressure candle were burning slowly as tensions and excitement infiltrate the crowd, while simultaneously melting the collective frontal lobe with a throbbing, melting bloom of a setlist.

Say Less, a fan favorite track making a live comeback in 2025 after a few years off was a treat for anyone watching, and nearly ambrosian for photographers lucky enough to capture the thunder of the string punching, cardiovascular crush injury that was Palermo’s stage presence tonight.

On a perfect bill for the genre, Nothing and Whirr, supported by an incandescent and similarly talented Glare, parted the thick vibrational sound sea for each other and made room for new england’s most eager gaze loving individuals to merge so many elements into a single, sprawling whole.
