Celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Moon & Antarctica, Modest Mouse pulled into MGM Fenway and performed the record front to back. It's not the easiest Modest Mouse record to do this with, but the crowd absolutely loved. The 15 songs comprised the entire set, which means that the 60 minute record became 90 minutes and some of the true highlights were where the band let loose.
"Tiny Cities Made of Ashes" saw the band go for broke with a wild jam that had the crowd going crazy. The hypnotic feel of "The Cold Part" could be felt deep within your soul, as Isaac Brock and the band extended the song past the confines of the album version. "The Stars Are Projectors" had one of the best light shows of the night to go along with the extended jam the band had in store for Boston.
Early on Brock stated how terrible he is at giving speeches but that he was so happy everyone chose to come to the show to spend it with the band. This was an important record for Modest Mouse and you could see how truly happy he was and it wasn't just for the sake of saying to get a cheap scream of approval for the crowd.
The last two songs of the album, "Life Like Weeds" and "What People Are Made Of", had the crowd entranced and once the band finished got the roar of approval they deserved for bringing The Moon & Antarctica to life. The encore started with the theme from Jaws playing over the pa system followed by the band coming out bathed in blue light. It felt like there was going to be more to the bit, but there wasn't. They then gave us a five song encore with a great "Parting of the Sensory", a blistering "Cowboy Dan", "Fire It Up", "Dogbed/Sheetrock", and closed the whole show with a fantastic take on "Interstate 8".
